Skinceuticals Sunscreen Review
Sharing is caring ;-)

I was first introduced to the Skinceuticals skin care range circa 2008. At the time, I had a Dermatologist look at my 30 something year old skin on my face, then take some close up photography that proceeded to scare the living daylights out of me! These close up shots provided me with convincing evidence that I had sustained significant sun damage over my many years of living in Australia. Any type of sun damage is a precursor to premature aging and cancer, so not good!!

So what did I do next?

The Dermatologist recommended for me to have IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) on the sun spots, freckles and broken capillaries. As it is performed by specialised practitioners, it is certainly an expensive option and not for the faint-hearted. I don’t have a low pain threshold, but I’d say it is considerably worse than when I was tattooed over my spine! I recommend taking some over-the-counter pain relief half an hour before you go and have IPL on your face.

The less painful option!

From that final IPL session onward, I decided to make a concerted effort in protecting my face with some quality products and invested in a hat!! There was no way I was going back for some more IPL!

Buying a top quality sunscreen is crucial to the protection of your skin from the harmful effects of the sun’s UV (ultraviolet radiation). As a primary school child in the 1980s in Australia, I was very familiar with the highly successful campaign from Anti-Cancer Council of Victoria (now known as Cancer Council Victoria) called Slip, Slop, Slap. So slipping on a shirt, slopping on some sunscreen and slapping on a hat has become my mantra ever since I saw my sun damage up close.

Best Sunscreen Reviews

I personally love the Skinceutical Sunscreens. Skinceuticals have a good selection of sunscreens to choose from but there are three that I would gladly recommend. Having also been plagued with sensitive skin, prone to breakouts and dermatitis, I needed to be very selective with my sunscreens. There is nothing worse than trying to fix one problem and then causing another!! I had tried lots over the years, but I have stuck with the Skinceutical sunscreen SPF30 on my face for 10 years now.

This is my everyday product. I have worn it both at the beach or for a 10km run on a hot summers day without getting burnt, though it’s not technically waterproof. I apply a small coin size amount for my face and it rubs on beautifully. It doesn’t leave you looking like a ghost and you can wear it under your makeup. Best of all I don’t get burnt or have any skin problems with this product. I can make a tube of Ultimate UV Defence SPF 30 last and last. LOVE IT! So worth it’s value.

So this one is perfect for any water based activities or sweating. With 80 minutes of water resistance, this will give you some solid UVA and UVB protection. I love that it really does stay on and doesn’t run off into my eyes. If you are hanging at the beach and going for a surf, this is the product for you. I would re-apply after 4 hours of being in the sun and water.

Finally, a product that I could use on my eyelids and under the eyes. Slightly tinted so it really looks like a light foundation. Easy to use this as a base for your makeup. As a notorious allergy sufferer, I am so thrilled to have found a product that doesn’t react with my skin.

You can’t put a price on anti-aging and good health!

Although you can definitely buy budget sunscreens at any supermarket, if you are serious about protecting your skin from the damaging effects of the sun, then this is an investment in your future. I always think of the quality of the Skinceuticals manufacturing, plus the fact that the sunscreen products provide a high level of broad spectrum sun protection with chemical-free UV filters makes it worth the slightly more you are going to spend.

4 Thoughts on “Skinceuticals Sunscreen Review, Why Prevention Is Better Than Cure!”

  • Prevention really is better than cure! As a naturally darker skinned person, I have heard many people say that I don’t need to use sunscreen. Obviously I know I do, but sometimes it’s easy to lose sight of that because I don’t burn. I’ll be following your site to get more ideas on great sunscreens!
    Janani 🙂

    • You are spot on Janani. Although you do have darker skin, UVA and UVB radiation will still damage your skin cells. Slip on a shirt, Slap on a hat and slap on some sunscreen is our best prevention.

  • This was a great read. Thank you for sharing your personal experience with IPL and your proactive measures to manage your skin health. I have fair skin myself and freckle easily. Growing up in Australia have always been aware of how easy it is to damage my skin and how hard it is the undo the damage. I will definitely be checking out the skinceutical sunscreens. Thanks again 🙂

    • Thank you for your feedback Sami. Even though it is winter in Australia, most people don’t realise that they are still exposed to UVA and UVB radiation. That’s why its important to wear a Broadspectrum sunscreen on your face all year round. Especially as those pesky UVA rays cause wrinkles!! Check out our Distributor of Skinceuticals with their free shipping (orders over $89) in Australia. We’d love to hear your feedback when you do.
